Why Us
Chailey Heritage Foundation is a leading charity dedicated to providing exceptional education and care for children and young adults with complex neurodisabilities, physical disabilities and health needs. Our state-of-the-art facilities and expert colleagues create a nurturing environment where individuals can thrive, reach their full potential and make a difference to their lives and that of their families.
There is a real sense of making a difference and belonging to something very special.
We don’t just offer jobs; we provide opportunities to be part of a team that demonstrates empathy and a genuine passion to help others and a capacity to build rewarding relationships. We will provide extensive support, and training, as well as opportunities for career progression.
What you’ll be doing and learning:
- Safeguarding – understanding all aspects of safeguarding, with an emphasis on what this means for children and young people with disabilities.
- Eating and drinking – supporting how different children and young people can be helped to eat and drink safely.
- Medicines – ensuring that the children and young people you work with receive the correct medicine at the right time.
- Manual handling – using a range of equipment with the children and young people, while keeping them and yourself safe.
- Intimate care – ensuring that the children and young people’s hygiene needs are taken care of safely and with dignity
- Powered mobility – using powered wheelchairs and other equipment safely and encouraging the children and young people to learn to drive.
- You’ll have the pleasure of attending a variety of days out and participate in fun activities with our children and young people.
- Epilepsy – safely managing children and young people who have seizures, and what to do in an emergency.
In return for your hard work and dedication you will receive high quality induction and ongoing training from qualified professionals. This includes supporting you to achieve the care certificate and a level 3 Diploma.
What you bring to the table:
- A basic understanding of the care and support needs of people with physical disabilities and respecting them as individuals
- Ability to see the person, not the disability, with a positive attitude towards diversity in general.
- Empathy and a genuine passion to help others and the capacity to find unique ways to build rewarding relationships with the young people here.
- Ability to support children and young adults to participate in a range of activities.
- Good basic understanding of Maths, English, and IT
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) or willingness to undertake training to achieve the Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care.
- Willing to attend specific training and confidently set up gastrostomy feeds for children and young adults.
- Willing to work shift patterns including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
If you also have experience of working with children and/or adults with disabilities and have a willingness to drive the Foundation vehicles, including minibuses, it would be an advantage.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to offer practical support and emotional encouragement to our young people/adults.
